Description

The "Hour of Callysto" is for students in grades 4 to 9, and is an introduction to Callysto, Jupyter Notebooks, and Python programming. This program is all about empowering students to learn about coding and computer science, which essential skills for the digital future.

Hour of Callysto is funded by Callysto, a federally-funded project (via CanCode) that offers free, interactive, online coding and data analysis tools. Callysto was created by the not-for-profit technology accelerator Cybera, and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences.

We will be connecting to many number-sense concepts from the Math Program of Studies, using technology.

Students will be learning Python programming language and computer science concepts:

  • Basic data types
  • Basic arithmetic operations and control flows.
  • Variables
  • Loops
  • Debugging

 

Requirements:

  • Students must have access to a computer with internet access.
  • Students must have an email address.
  • Connection instructions will be set via email after registration.
