Shine Homeschool - Introduction to Discover Coding II

Program for Shine Homeschool students ONLY.

INTRO TO DISCOVER CODING II – Ages 10-17

This is for kids ages 10-17. We introduce students to some fundamentals of computers, computing science, game design and coding. Students learn in front of a computer, as well as through unplugged activities. The experience is about problem solving through fun and discovery.

Day 1: Hour of Code

ü  Students will explore Hour of Code resources and be introduced to sequencing, events and loops.

Day 2: Introduction to Scratch

ü  Students will create a simple catch game in Scratch. They will learn to use loops to create animations.

Day 3: Introduction to Programming on Micro bits

ü  Students will learn about physical computing on Microbits.

Day 4: Introduction to Python

ü  Students will be introduced to a text-based language, Python.

Students will learn:

• Algorithms
• Sequencing
• Logic
• Conditionals
• Loops
• Variables

These lessons are designed to introduce kids to computer science and get them exciting about creating with technology, rather than just consuming.
